There’s been a mini battle going on in my house because my oldest daughter and I want a Nintendo Wii. My husband, being a complete PS3 fan, is totally against it. He doesn’t see the point in us having one, even though we have no interest in the PS3 and it’s not like we can use Wii Fit on it.

Well, the other day my brilliant self came up with the perfect solution! I’ve been wanting to play Super Mario World badly, but we don’t have a Super Nintendo… We don’t have a Nintendo either, and my husband’s wanted to play Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out… SO! I looked on Evil Bay and found a FC Twin System that plays both Nintendo AND Super Nintendo games! I checked for reviews on the system on Amazon, and it seemed like it was worth getting for $43 shipped!

Now, the system will be here today, and we found the old games that made us happy such as Street Fighter II, Top Gear 2, Punch-Out, Super Mario World, and Super Mario All-Stars (it’s the original Mario, SNES versions 1-3 and Lost Levels)… The whole she-bang with games included only cost $101! Seriously, you can’t beat that! (I still need to get Tetris though!)

Even better, the kids don’t know we ordered it and they’ll be able to see what kind of games we played when we were their ages! Not to mention, I think it’ll be one more way for us to have fun together as a family.

So, what takes you back to your childhood? What games do you wish were still around, or do you with your kids had to enjoy? And if it’s not a game, maybe a cartoon or movie… Even a toy! Goodness, I have lots and luckily, it seems a lot of them are coming back – Like Strawberry Shortcake!

I forget how I originally found Hungry Girl by Lisa Lillien, but I’m very glad I did! I’ve been following her off and on for almost a year, but only recently have I begun visiting her site daily no matter what. And not just because I joined Weight Watchers and she’s a contributor! Lisa’s website offers weekly updates on such things as what’s new in food & dieting, hidden horrors in foods, better alternatives to restaurant menu items, and weekend survival strategies.

Now, Lisa isn’t a nutritionist… She says she’s just an average female, but I can’t even give her that… She’s awesome! Anyone who can come up with delicious recipes under 200 calories isn’t average! And yes, I do mean she has a book called “Hungry Girl 200 Under 200: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories.” Can you imagine?! Well, I can since I just purchased the cookbook and I’m lovin’ what I see! I almost just ran back out to make her “It’s A Snap!” Ginger Cookie ‘n Peach Parfait,” which is only 158 calories and 3 WW points! Oh yeah!

Lisa also has a book called “Hungry Girl Recipes and Survival Strategies for Guilt-Free Eating in the Real World,” and a new book which will be available in March 2010 (but you can pre-order it now) called “Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The Easiest, Most Delicious, Guilt-Free Recipes on the Planet.” She also has an audiobook and recipe card set.

Oh! And another reason I gotta love Hungry Girl… She introduced me to Vitalicious’ VitaTops! They’re only 100 calories each, and 1 WW point! Seriously?! What’s that? You’re asking if you get to have a delicious chocolate muffin top with REAL chocolate chips for breakfast or a snack, and not use a bazillion WW points?! Oh yes, you can!!! How insanely awesome is that?!

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens…. Brown paper packages tied up with strings…. These are a few of my favorite things.”

Okay, not really all of that (just the first two), but who doesn’t love that song from The Sound of Music?!

This is a random listing of my favorite things… Call it “Getting to Know Aquilah Better” :)

Yeah, I know, I’m boring LOL!

I LOVE Tori Amos!  Some of her songs are just super powerful!  I found out today she has a new CD coming out.  Then I realized it’s an odd-numbered year… Tori has been touring in odd-numbered years for ages now, and she always comes to SPAC!  I don’t care what happens for the rest of the year (within reason) as long as I can see Tori!  I seriously wish VH1 would release their Storytellers so I can get hers.  Ugh!

Okay, so now that I’ve confessed my love for Tori Amos, I must now share with the world how I’m feeling about the controversy surrounding Britney Spears’ song “If U Seek Amy.”  Honestly, I don’t get the hoopla!  I mean, I do and I don’t.  As a parent, do I want my daughter running around sounding like she’s saying “F*** Me”, no.  But, do I think she understands what’s being said… That’s up for debate!  I guess my point is that if she didn’t know about the stink over the song, would she even realize it?  (I’ll have to ask tomorrow when she gets home from her friend’s house)

Maybe I’m biased because I like the song, and it’s not like Britney isn’t 27 years old now… Besides, what about her first song?  Seriously?!  That didn’t even HAVE hidden meanings, did it?  Maybe “Circus” should be labeled “Parental Advisory.”  But I guarantee these kids today are hearing and know WAY more than we even imagined they did, so I doubt this isn’t something they probably haven’t heard in context at some point… That being said, I’m going to post the link to video for enjoyment… Like it or hate it, it doesn’t matter to me.  I honestly think the whole CD is good!
